Aberford

Aberford is a small village about 8 miles to the north-east of Leeds with a population of just over 1,000.

Aberford was a staging post on the old Great North Road . Evidence of former coaching days is provided by the large arches incorporated within many houses in the village.

Lotherton Hall is a treasure trove of arts, crafts and music. This charming Edwardian country home is surrounded by beautiful formal, wildflower and wooded grounds a red deer park and one of the country's most impressive and important collections of rare and endangered birds. Lotherton was the home of the Gascoigne family, who created a charming home in the days before the first World War. Given to Leeds City Council in 1968, Lotherton Hall boasts fine collections of furniture, paintings, sculpture, silver, china, costume and oriental art.
