Arncliffe is a small village, known as "the capital of Littondale".

Situated above the flood-plain of the River Skirfare, Arncliffe is built around a large village green. The fine 12th-century church of St Oswald's lies close to the river a little to the north of the village.

The road up the dale crosses the river past Bridge House where the Victorian author Charles Kingsley often stayed and where he wrote part of The Water Babies.

Arncliffe was the original location for the fictional village of Beckindale in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale Farm.
