Gargrave is at the lowest crossing point of the Pennines, known as the Aire Gap. As a result, main road, railway and canal all pass through the village. The main road is the Leeds-Kendal road (A65); the railway is Airedale Line with rail services to Leeds and Bradford to the east, and Morecambe and Kendal to the west; the canal is the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
The village is also on the route of the Pennine Way, and so it is a popular destination for hikers.OS grid reference SD 935 545
