Helmsley

Helmsley is an attractive unspoiled market town in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, on the River Rye. Its skyline is dominated by the impressive ruins of Helmsley Castle, dating from the late 12th and 13th centuries.

Helmsley lies on the A170 road, 14 miles east of Thirsk and 13 miles west of Pickering.

Duncombe Park, the ancestral home of the Earls of Feversham, is on the outskirts of the town, and a statue of William Duncombe, the second earl, stands in the town's square.
