Hovingham is an attractive estate village in the Ryedale district. It is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the edge of the Howardian Hills.

The village is built around the historic Hovingham Hall which has been the home of the Worsley family for many generations. The hall was built in the Palladian style between 1750 and 1770 by Thomas Worsley to his own design.

Hovingham Hall was the home of the Duchess of Kent, formerly Miss Katharine Worsley, before her marriage. The wedding, in 1961, was held in York Minster and was followed by a reception at Hovingham Hall attended by many of the Crowned Heads of Europe.
