Thirsk is a small traditional market town in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire. The town lies in the Vale of Mowbray, close to the North York Moors, 20 miles north of York.
Thirsk is perhaps best known as the home of the author James Herriot. His house and surgery have now been converted into the World of James Herriot, an award-winning museum and visitor attraction.
