Thornton-le-Dale (also called Thornton Dale) is an attractive village in the Ryedale district of north Yorkshire. The village is situated about two miles east of Pickering on the A170 main road at a crossroads junction dating from the middle ages.

The village is a favourite haunt of artists and photographers, attracted by the picturesque old cottages on the green, and by the gently flowing stream beside the main street.
